Deopomorphism

God touching man - A deopomorphism

The act of God ascribing to an inferior object or species characteristics that are reserved for God.

(Ex. God declaring that man is "good." Jesus said that, "There is none good, not one." Yet God called man good during creation.)

Deopomorphism may also refer to traits in mankind that can only come from something outside of the race of man: love, kindness, goodness, long-suffering, peacefulness, etc.

Anthropomorphism is a description of something non-homo sapien, using the traits of homo sapien. (Ex. "The tree was swaying in the breeze." A tree cannot truly sway.) For a more detailed description.

As opposed to 'anthropomorphism', deopomorphism is when God acribes some trait of Himself (love, kindness, patience, etc.) to anything else.

See the ChristianCrunch blog entry 'Describing God' for more detail on deopomorphism.
